McKinney Honors Hometown Heroes Campaign: Honoring Our Veterans

This May, during Military Appreciation Month, we invite you to pay tribute to the brave men and women who served our country and made sacrifices for our freedom. Through our McKinney Honors Hometown Heroes campaign, you can honor your loved ones by purchasing a personalized banner that will be proudly displayed at Chestnut Square throughout the month.

How It Works:

  • Purchase a banner featuring your hometown hero. It could be a father, mother, son, daughter, friend, or relative who served in the military.
  • The banners will be displayed in Chestnut Square during May, creating a heartwarming tribute to the heroes who shaped our community and our nation.
  • Each banner is a visual representation of their sacrifice and service — a lasting reminder of their bravery.
  • eMail a photo of your loved one to jamie@chestnutsquare.org. A photo is not required, but we'd love to share it along with your story.

Proceeds Benefit "Bobby’s Room" Proceeds from the McKinney Honors Hometown Heroes campaign will benefit Bobby's Room, a special exhibit at our Village and Museum. This room is dedicated to Bobby Younger, a local hero who served in World War II. As a son, brother, uncle, and friend, Bobby’s story is one of honor and sacrifice. Bobby's Room pays homage to The Greatest Generation — a generation whose courage, resilience, and service shaped the world we live in today.

Why Participate:

  • Honor the legacy of your loved one in a meaningful way.
  • Support a room that preserves the history and legacy of hometown heroes.
  • Contribute to a community-wide tribute to all those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

How to Get Involved:

  1. Once you purchase a banner, an email will be sent to you where you can upload a photo to use.
  2. Upload a photo of your veteran and include their name, rank, and years of service.
  3. Make a difference by supporting Bobby's Room and helping preserve the stories of our local heroes.

Let’s come together as a community to honor and remember our McKinney Honors Hometown Heroes this May. Your contribution is more than just a banner — it's a way to share the legacy of our heroes for generations to come.
