The Schoolhouse at Chestnut Square: Hometown Heroes Workshop Series
Description
Hometown Heroes
Connecting Youth to their Community Through History
Our history books share exciting stories of many heroes throughout their pages. Students learn about brave pilgrims who took a chance boarding the Mayflower to sail an unknown ocean to reach a land far away to find freedom of religion. Children join George Washington as he leads his frozen troops across the Delaware, Amelia Earhart as she takes to the skies to become an American aviation pioneer, and Buzz Aldrin as he takes one small step that leads to a giant leap into space exploration.
While the accomplishments of these famous people are amazing, did you know that there are many heroes who lived right here in McKinney? Be sure to attend our Chestnut Square Schoolhouse Workshop Series: Hometown Heroes as we do a deep dive into the lives of the pioneer families who left their home states and crossed the rugged frontier to start a new life in the unknown land which eventually grew into McKinney, Texas. We will also present other McKinney heroes that helped shape McKinney.
Join us and learn of the impact that everyday people can have on a community.
